Norrköping Symphony Orchestra

Principal Guest Conductor

Stefan Solyom has been the Principal Guest Conductor of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra since the 2009/10 season. He started his musical career as a horn player, going on to study conducting with Leif Segerstam and Jorma Panula. Stefan is considered one of today’s most interesting young Nordic conductors.

At 20 years old, he made his debut at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm conducting Ingvar Lidholm’s "Ett Drömspel." Since then he has had numerous engagements with European opera houses, including Tosca at the Paris National Opera and the Barber of Seville at Komische Oper Berlin. But Stefan is far from being only an opera conductor. As well as his engagement with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, he is a guest conductor for, among others, The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, and The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. He was recently named Music Director for the German National Theater and Chief Conductor for Staatskapelle Weimar.

Two of Stefan’s favorite composers are Mozart and Bernstein, and perhaps Solyom’s enthusiastic conducting style can be found somewhere between these two role models: Mozart’s melodic humility and Bernstein’s driving energy.

It has been ten years since Stefan Solyom first conducted the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has been a regular guest and his current title of Principal Guest Conductor will allow the collaboration between conductor and orchestra to develop and become closer than ever!
